Been “hacked” lately?
Oh, that’s right, that only happens to the big guys. Wrong.
Did you know that 62% of all reported data breaches happen to small to medium sized companies? 1 in 5 small businesses get hacked each year. Of those hacked, about 60% go out of business within 6 months of the hacking.
58% of small business owners surveyed last year felt that they did not need to consider insuring this risk because it would not impact their business if they got hacked.
More than 12.7 million Americans were impacted by identity fraud in 2014. Here in North Carolina, the company that is hacked is required to notify individuals whose private information has been stolen and provide credit monitoring. The cost for each person whose info has been stolen is around $100. Oh yeah, then there are attorney fees, public relation costs, etc.
So, what is on your computer? How many customer records do you have? Unless your business only accepts cash, and you do not receive anyone’s personal information, you need to consider cyber coverage.
